Blockquotes are helpful for quoting people or texts.

> I'm a blockquote.
> And I'm part of the same blockquote

I'm not part of a blockquote

> And I'm a totally separate blockquote

I'm a blockquote. And I'm part of the same blockquote

I'm not part of a blockquote

And I'm a totally separate blockquote

You can force content to start on a new line by ending the preceding line with two or more trailing spaces. For example, here we denote trailing whitespace with bullets

> You don't want to sell me death sticks•• <--- two trailing spaces here
> You want to go home and rethink your life

You don't want to sell me death sticks
You want to go home and rethink your life

This trick is applicable to most markdown elements - not just blockquotes.
